Welcome to the Springfield Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol!

The Springfield Composite Squadron is a proud unit of dedicated, skilled adult officers and cadets who volunteer their time and talents to perform missions for America and promote and uphold the core values of the Civil Air Patrol:  Integrity, Volunteer Service, Excellence, Respect.

In 1948, the same year that the Army Air Corps became the U.S. Air Force, Congress designated the Civil Air Patrol as the permanent, official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force and charged us with three main missions:

CAP members conduct missions in search and rescue, disaster relief, homeland security, and counterdrug reconnaissance.  Nationwide, our pilots log in excess of 100,000 flying hours each year.  But you don't have to be a pilot to join!  Many of our most important volunteer opportunities have nothing to do with flying!  For instance, many of our 33,000 senior officers nurture the leadership skills of more than 22,000 youth enrolled in the Cadet Program.  In addition, CAP broadens the horizons of hundreds of thousands of students and more than 1,000 teachers annually through our aerospace education programs.

CAP's assets and resources include our fleet of over 500 aircraft, 950 ground vehicles, and the most extensive communications system in the world.  However, CAP's most valuable assets are its volunteer members!

As a member of CAP, you'll find that one of the best things about belonging to the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary is the number of opportunities and the corresponding on-the-job training made available to you to help you perform missions for America.  We have jobs available in the following areas:

  • Administration
  • Aerospace Education
  • Cadet Programs
  • Chaplain
  • Character Development
  • Communications
  • Drug Demand Reduction
  • Emergency Services
  • Finance
  • Flight Operations
  • Historian
  • Information Technology
  • Inspections
  • Logistics
  • Personnel
  • Professional Development
  • Public Affairs
  • Recruiting and Retention
  • Safety
  • Standardization/Evaluation (Flight Test Check-Pilot)

CAP has something to meet most every individual's needs and interests.  If your area of interest is not listed, please contact us and you will probably find that, yes, we could use your talents.  Remember...

You have knowledge, skills, and abilities that can help accomplish these missions!  And you don't have to be a pilot to join!  Click here for more information on how you can use your talents to perform missions for America.
